How is concentration mode calculated?

Concentration mode highlights the smallest set of precincts whose combined reported crime reaches a selected share (50%, 75%, or 90%) of the total for the chosen category, year, and scope. It shows how unevenly reported crime is distributed across precincts — not how dangerous an area is.

Which crime categories does the map cover?

Accepted Answer

All crime, plus Murder, Rape, Residential burglary, Vehicle theft, Assault (GBH), Aggravated robbery, and Drug-related crime — a curated subset of the categories SAPS reports, kept small so the map loads quickly. Every precinct's own page has the full category breakdown.

Accepted Answer

Raw reported counts, exactly as SAPS publishes them — not per-capita rates. Larger precincts serve more people and naturally show higher totals, so read the trend and streak modes alongside raw counts when looking at any area.
